When painting with oils I prefer a smooth surface, so I cut plywood sheets into various shapes and sizes. I use a dry brush technique to achieve soft shadows and highlights.
My watercolour paintings are done with a sense of freedom and expression, by allowing the water to saturate the paper. I add highlights with a touch of white acrylic, then add depth with black fine liner.
Over the last few years I have done 3 mural paintings. Two have been while taking part in Upfest, and more recently I have painted an indoor mural for a Youth Centre in Bristol. I will be looking for more opportunities like this in the future. The large scale of the painting allows for experimentation with new mediums such as paint pens.
